Finding an old chest at a charity shop for £10 meant it was just calling out to be taken home up cycled and re loved.
As you can see from the picture below it really was in a sorry state but the basic box was still sturdy.
I had some Annie Sloan paint left over from a previous project, and some lovely fabric from Cath Kidston.
Firstly I removed the lid and then painted the whole of the base in the chalk paint. I have an Annie Sloan rounded \brush which I can highly recommend. The great thing about Annie Sloan chalk paint means you don't need to sand anything down.
Whilst the base was drying I removed the handle off the lid and as the fabric was still in one piece I decided just to staple gun the Cath fabric on top of it.
To trim the lid I used red gingham ribbon using my glue gun.
The handle was then screwed back into place and once the base had dried i screwed the lid back onto the base.
As you can see the end result is just gorgeous and although I absolutely love it I decided to give it as a present to my sister Amie for all her knitting.
You can find glue guns quite cheaply at HobbyCraft
The Toadstall fabric was from Cath Kidston They have loads of lovely fabric by the metre.
And the chalk paint and brush were from Annie Sloan
Amazing how something that was just taken to a charity shop can end up looking so lovely and then be reused again. It could of quite easily been lost in landfill.
Happy Upcycling
Kelly
